We currently have only bare details of the life of Friedrich Schiff, one of the great cartoonists of Shanghai between the World Wars. He was born in 1908 in Austria and moved to Shanghai in 1930. He returned to Austria in 1947, and died there in 1968. A collection of his works was published in Austria in 1985 under the name China gemalt - Chinesische Zeitgeschichte in Bildern Friedrich Schiff.
