May-May's Diary
Entry for August 05, 1998

The unflappable Michelle Garnaut tells me she's planning on opening her new restaurant, M on the Bund, in September!!! For anyone like myself who can't get enough of her pavlova, this is excruciatingly importnant news! The restaurant is on the top floor of 5, the Bund, and its huge -- 3,000 square feet. I haven't been to see it yet, but I'm told the terrace overlooking the river is just charming. I understahd she will be serving some foods other than Pavlova as well.

More news in the upper crust end of the wining and dining market -- I hear Pierre Cardin has negotiated a 12-year lease to do a Maxim's cafe in the new Grand Opera House on People's Square. I heard it was just coffee and nibbles, but there are now some suggestions that it may go further than that into more substantive food.

This is all not good for my diet!!!

We are SO busy these days with our new paper, the Shanghai Buzzzzzz!!! Have you seen it yet? The first weekly edition appears this week and it has an absolutely lovely picture on the cover that I chose myself. It's from the 1930s, and features a girl being examined by three gentlemen, one older, one middle aged, and one young. It's interesting to see the different parts of the anatomy in which they are interested!!

I got a call last night from a lady in Huzhou who asked for my help!! Huzhou is a town about an hour away from Shanghai, and she said there are several western-style bars there. But business is terrible, and the bar owners want help!! They heard about me and my knowledge of the nightlife scene, and want me to act as consultant. Well!! I'm happy of course, but it's simply a matter of time, darlings. Huzhou is not exactly round the corner!!

Byeeee!!!
