Chuan Meizi (Sichuan Sister)
300 Tiantong Lu (between Sichuan and Zhapu Lu), TEL: 6325-3694
Two-story restaurant featuring costumed "sisters" at the door and a boy who fills your teacup from a pot with a two-foot spout. Menu is coded for spice-level, from merely mild to triple-burn. Food is sometimes excellent, but seems to have been on the decline (along with the service) as this restaurant's renown has increased. Choose the second floor, which is of wood, and try to sit in a low booth beside the wall of windows overlooking the street.
