I became very interested in Chinese fortune telling in the early 1980s,
and did an enormous amount of research into the subject, not from the
perspective of a believer, but to use it as a way of understanding how
science, astromony and religion were all intertwined in ancient China
into a world view which seemed to match, and dramatically pre-date,
Stephen Hawking's search for the ultimate formula that would explain
everything. I still don't believe in fortune-telling and I never
completed the book, but I still think the topic is worth looking into.
Here are large sections of what I completed at the time.
